At Journey Christian Church, we believe that the matter of sound doctrine in the church is a consistent theme throughout the New Testament. (I Tim. 1:3-10; 4:16; 6:3; 2Tim. 1:13; 3:16; 4:2; Titus 1:9-11; 2:1).
Vision Statement
We believe God has called us to live life as He would. To reach the lost and unchurched of our community by developing relationships with others, encouraging and praying for one another, growing in and serving at the church as we take steps forward together.
Living Life...God’s Way
The Statement of Doctrine outlined below is a summary of those truths which we hold as foundational to the Christian faith.
The Bible
The Scriptures, comprising 66 books of the Old and New Testaments, are the inspired Word of God without error in the original writ- ings, written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the complete revelation of His will for the salvation of men and the divine and final authority in all matters of faith and life. (2 Pet. 1:20-21; 2 Tim. 3:15-16; Matt. 5:18)
God and the Trinity
There is only one true and living God, Crea- tor of all living things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three persons:: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (Duet. 6:4; Matt. 5:48; 28:19)
Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man, conceived by the Holy Spirit, and is the second person in the Trinity. He was miraculously born of the virgin Mary, lived a sinless life, died on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins according to the Scriptures, literally rose from the grave, and ascended into heaven, where, at the right hand of the Father, He is now our High Priest and Advocate. (Phil.2:6-11; Lu. 1:34; Jn. 1:1-3; I Pet. 3:18; Rom. 5:9; Ac. 2:23-24; Heb. 8:1)
The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is a divine person, the third person of the Trinity sent from the Father and Son to dwell, guide, teach, convict the world of sin, righteousness and judgment, and to regener- ate, sanctify, and empower the believer for godly living and service. At the moment of salvation the Holy Spirit indwells every believer in Christ and bestows every believer with spiritual gifts for ministry to the family of God and the world. It is the will of God that every believer should be filled with the Holy Spirit and be wholly sancti- fied, being separated from sin and dedicated to the will of God. (Jn. 14:15-18; 16:7-11,13; Acts 1:8; I Cor12-14; Rom. 12: 4-8; Eph. 4:11-16; I Thes. 5:23)
Mankind and Sin
Mankind was created in the image and likeness of God, but fell into sin through dis- obedience and is therefore lost. Only through regeneration by the Holy Spirit can salvation and spiritual life be obtained. (Gen. 1:27; Rom. 3:23; Jn. 3:3)
Salvation by Grace
Salvation has been provided through Je- sus Christ for all men and is based solely on the grace and mercy of God, and is not the result of human deeds or goodness, Those who place their faith in Jesus Christ for for- giveness of their sin, repent, and believe on Him are born of the Holy Sprit; thereby, re- ceiving the gift of eternal life and become the children of God. (Jn.1:12; Titus 3:4-7; Jn. 3:16;14:6)
The Return of Christ
The return of Jesus Christ to earth is im- minent, personal, visible, and pre-millennial in order to establish His kingdom fulfilling God's eternal plan for creation. This is the blessed hope for the believer and is an im- portant truth for holy living and faithful ser- vice. (Heb. 10:37; Lu. 21:27; Titus 2:11-14; Rev. 20
Future Destiny
There will be a bodily resurrection of the dead, the final judgment before God, the eter- nal joy in heaven for those who are in Christ Jesus, and the endless suffering in hell for those who have not received salvation (I Cor. 15:20-23; Jn. 5:28-29)
The Church
The Church consists of all those who believe in Jesus Christ, are redeemed through His blood, regenerated through the Holy Spirit and united together with Jesus Christ as the head of the Church. The local church is a body of believers in Christ who gather together to de- vote themselves to worship, prayer, the teach- ing of God’s Word, fellowship, observant of the ordinances of Baptism by immersion and the Lord’s Supper and to minister to one an- other through the development and use of tal- ents and spiritual gifts. God has commis- sioned members of the local church to go into the entire world as a witness proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus, beginning in their own com- munities and reaching across to the ends of the earth. (Matt.28:19-20; Eph. 1:22-23; Acts 2:41 -47)
Healing for the sick
Provision is made in the redemptive work of Jesus Christ for the healing of the mortal body, The Scriptures teach that prayer for the sick and anointing of oil are privileges for the Church in the present age. (Jam. 5:13-16; Matt. 8:16-17)
